After making waves at international festivals and in Indian theatres earlier this year, ‘Putul Nacher Itikotha’, Suman Mukhopadhyay’s adaptation of Manik Bandyopadhyay’s celebrated novel, is set for its OTT debut on Hoichoi from November 14.
The film, which hit Indian cinemas on August 1, sees Jaya Ahsan in the lead role of Kusum, alongside Abir Chatterjee as Shashi and Parambrata Chatterjee as Kumu.
Mukhopadhyay shifts Bandyopadhyay’s story to the late 1930s and early 1940s, aiming to bring the social and emotional undercurrents of the novel closer to present-day audiences. The ensemble cast also features Ananya Chatterjee, Surangana Bandyopadhyay and Shantilal Mukhopadhyay.
Critics praised the film’s performances and the on-screen chemistry between Jaya and Abir, a pairing that drew attention during the theatrical run. With its Hoichoi release, Bangladeshi viewers will now be able to stream the much-discussed adaptation at home.
Speaking during the film’s cinema release, Jaya Ahsan expressed her hope that audiences across Bengal would connect with the story. “Although an Indian director made the film, Manik Bandyopadhyay belongs to both sides of Bengal,” she said. “His writing reflects our shared climate and culture. I’m very happy that Bangladeshi audiences who love literature-based cinema can now watch Putul Nacher Itikotha.”
The streaming release adds to a busy season for the actor. Earlier this month, Jaya’s Bangladesh–Iran co-production ‘Fereshte’ premiered on the local platform Bongo after its September 19 theatrical release.
Directed by Murtaza Atash Zamzam, the film portrays the lives of a rickshaw-puller and his garment-worker wife, played by Suman Faruk and Jaya, capturing their struggles and quiet resilience.
