BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has voiced strong resentment in a Facebook post over what described as “false and deliberate misinformation” regarding his father, Mirza Ruhul Amin.
For years, some quarters have circulated claims that Mirza Ruhul Amin had served as a ‘Razakar’ during the 1971 Liberation War. Even a former state minister under the Awami League government allegedly listed his name among war criminals.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Mirza Fakhrul denounced these allegations, calling them “baseless and politically motivated.” He stated that during the Liberation War, his father took the entire family to India’s Islampur, where they lived in a refugee camp. He returned to Thakurgaon after its liberation on 3 December 1971. Fakhrul further noted that in the 54 years since independence, no legal case or complaint had ever been filed against his father.

According to Fakhrul, these false narratives about Mirza Ruhul Amin began spreading during the Awami League’s tenure.
It is worth mentioning that before independence, Mirza Ruhul Amin was a Muslim League leader and was twice elected to the East Pakistan Provincial Assembly. After independence, he was elected a Member of Parliament in 1979 and again in 1988, and also served as a minister in the cabinet of former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad.
