Presidency University (PU) organised a workshop on cyber security and Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions to provide students with practical knowledge of digital security amid rising cyber threats. The programme, titled “Introduction to Cyber Security & CTF”, was held on Thursday, 23 July 2026, at Seminar Hall 401 of the university’s Gulshan campus.
The workshop was organised by the PU Cyber Security Club (PUCSC) with support from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). Professor Dr Md Anwarul Kabir, Principal Advisor of Presidency University, attended the event as chief guest, while Professor Dr Shahidul Islam Khan, Dean of the School of Engineering and Head of the CSE Department, chaired the session.
Faculty members and officials from different departments were also present at the programme.
The keynote session was conducted by Abrar Jahin Sarkar, Machine Learning Research Engineer at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He discussed the fundamentals of cyber security, evolving global cyber threats, ethical hacking and Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions.
Through practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises, Sarkar showed students how even minor security vulnerabilities can create major cyber risks.
The workshop was coordinated by Mostafa Kamal Sagar, Lecturer at the CSE Department and Moderator of PU Cyber Security Club. The organisers said in a press release that the initiative aimed to complement classroom learning by introducing students to practical cyber security practices and real-world problem-solving techniques.
Speakers said the growing use of artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital services has increased demand for skilled cyber security professionals worldwide. They added that developing practical expertise during university years could help students pursue opportunities in the technology sector at home and abroad.
The closing session included an award ceremony for winners of PUCSC’s “One Video, One Member” campaign. All participants received e-certificates, club-branded pens and refreshments.
The organisers expressed hope that such hands-on workshops and technology-focused programmes would strengthen students’ practical skills and encourage them to contribute to building a safer digital Bangladesh.
