The New Bridge area in Chattogram city has been blocked demanding justice for the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi and the arrest of his killers.
As part of its programme, Inqilab Moncho has been imposing a total blockade in the area since 2pm on Sunday.
The blockade has caused severe traffic congestion on both sides of the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway, with vehicles, including passenger buses and trucks carrying goods, gridlocked on the highway for a long time, causing extreme suffering for the masses.
While addressing the programme, leaders of Inqilab Moncho said that Sharif Osman Hadi’s murder was premeditated, but the failure to arrest the real killers even after so many days of the incident is proof of the administration’s failure.
Mamunur Rashid said, “Hadi was a vocal organiser against injustice. He was killed to silence his voice forever. We want to state clearly that we will continue this movement until justice is served for Hadi’s murder.”
A person named Parvez Reza said, “It is extremely regrettable that, even two weeks after the murder of one of the July Uprising’s pioneers, martyred Sharif Osman Hadi, the interim government has failed to take proper measures. We suspect that important government personalities might be involved in this murder.”
He said, “Blocking the New Bridge area is not our final programme. If the administration does not ensure a speedy trial, we will announce tougher programmes will be announced in the coming days.”
During the blockade, additional police were deployed in the area. Law enforcement agencies are on alert to keep the situation under control.
