The hearing on the appeal petition filed by Nagarik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna against the High Court order dismissing his writ petition seeking a directive to remove his name from the loan defaulter list has been adjourned until Monday.
On Sunday, 28 December, the hearing on Manna’s application in the chamber court of Appellate Division Justice Md Rezaul Haque was adjourned until Monday, as confirmed to journalists by Assistant Attorney General Md Uzzal Hossain.
Barrister Abdul Kaiyum Liton appeared on behalf of the Islami Bank in court. Advocate Ahsanul Karim and Advocate Syed Mamun Mahbub appeared for the petitioner. Deputy Attorney General Md Zahirul Islam Shumon and Assistant Attorney General Md Uzzal Hossain represented the state.
On 24 December, a High Court bench dismissed Manna’s writ petition seeking a directive to remove his name from the loan defaulter list.
Earlier, on 10 December, the Bogura Baragola branch of Islami Bank issued a “call back notice” to Afaku Cold Storage Limited, of which Manna owns 50% and serves as chairman, to recover a defaulted amount of Tk38.05 crore. The notice, sent to the addresses of Manna and his two partners, demanded clearance of the dues by 18 December.
The notice, signed by branch manager Touhid Reza, was sent to the addresses of the organisation’s chairman, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, and managing director ABM Nazmul Kadir Shahjahan Chowdhury.
Managing Director ABM Nazmul Kadir Shahjahan Chowdhury owns 25 percent of the company with his wife and Director Ismat Ara Laizu owning the remaining 25 percent. The notice sent on 3 December instructed the Bogura-based organisation to repay a total defaulted investment amount of Tk38.05 crore.
The notice also mentioned that the bank would be compelled to take legal action if the entire outstanding amount was not cleared by 18 December 2025.
