After an unexpected absence from major screens on Eid day, ‘Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka’ has now begun showing at Star Cineplex, signalling a recovery from earlier technical complications.
The film, headlined by Shakib Khan, had initially failed to appear on the multiplex’s Eid schedule, prompting confusion among audiences. Its first screening at the chain took place on Sunday evening at the Bashundhara City outlet, effectively marking its delayed entry into one of the country’s busiest cinema circuits.
Industry chatter had pointed to issues with the film’s Digital Cinema Package as the reason behind the disruption. However, the producers later clarified that while the file had been delivered, compatibility problems with the theatre’s system prevented it from being screened.
With the glitch now addressed, the team has confirmed that the film is being rolled out across all branches of the multiplex from Monday, alongside its ongoing nationwide release.
The hiccup drew disappointment from viewers who had planned to watch the film during the Eid holiday rush, with some taking to social media to voice frustration. The production team acknowledged that the setback not only disrupted audience plans but also affected box office momentum during a crucial festive window.
Directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud, the film is set against the backdrop of 1990s Dhaka and explores the city’s criminal underworld. Alongside Khan, the cast includes Tasnia Farin and Jyotirmoyee Kundu in key roles, supported by an ensemble featuring Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Intekhab Dinar.
