Prime Bank PLC has led an agricultural credit campaign and open loan distribution programme in Madhabpur Upazila of Habiganj to expand farmers’ access to banking services and support agricultural production.
The programme, titled “Upazila-based Agricultural Credit Campaign, Discussion Meeting, and Open Loan Distribution Program”, was organised under the guidance of Bangladesh Bank, Sylhet, with participation from 15 scheduled banks operating in Madhabpur. Prime Bank PLC served as the lead bank for the initiative.
Prime Bank said in a press release that the campaign aims to bring banking services closer to farmers while making agricultural loan facilities more accessible and supporting rural economic growth.
The event was attended by Md Javed Ahmed, Additional Director of Bangladesh Bank, as chief guest. The programme was chaired by Md Mehedi Hasan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Madhabpur Upazila, while Syed Sajjad Haider Chowdhury, Deputy Managing Director of Prime Bank PLC, attended as special guest.
As part of the programme, 50 farmers received agricultural loan cheques. Speakers at the event said open loan distribution helps make the lending process more transparent, faster and easier for farmers.
An awareness video on agricultural loans was also shown to farmers and local residents during the event.
The programme was attended by Madhabpur Upazila Agriculture Officer, Fisheries Officer and Livestock Officer, along with Md Humayun Kabir, Regional Head of Prime Bank PLC Sylhet Region; Shahana Parveen, Head of Agro Business at Prime Bank PLC; and branch managers and officials from participating scheduled banks.
Speakers highlighted the importance of agricultural loans in boosting food production, improving farmers’ livelihoods and contributing to national economic development.
They also assured farmers of continued banking support and technical assistance to help expand agricultural activities and strengthen their businesses.
