The government has upgraded the posts of headteachers in government primary schools to 10th grade, with the revised salary and allowances effective from 15 December, the Primary and Mass Education Ministry announced on Tuesday.
The ministry’s Public Relations Department confirmed the update, noting that the gazette notification was issued on 15 December following presidential approval. The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Rajib Kumar Sarkar, makes the order effective immediately.
Under the new provision, headteachers previously on Grade 11 (Tk 12,500–30,230) under the 2015 salary scale will now receive Grade 10 pay (Tk 16,000–38,640) as gazetted officers.
Riaz Parvez, president of the Bangladesh Government Primary School Headteachers’ Association, told Times of Bangladesh, “It was announced earlier that headteachers’ posts would be upgraded to Grade 10. Now that the gazette has been issued, we will receive salaries and allowances under the new scale from 15 December.”
He also expressed gratitude on behalf of all headteachers to the interim government, the ministry’s primary education adviser, the ministry secretary, and the department’s director general for implementing the upgrade.
