A convicted prisoner has been released from Chuadanga District Jail following a special presidential pardon granted on Eid-ul-Adha.
Jailor of Chuadanga District Jail Monir Hossain confirmed the matter.
Abdul Malek was found guilty and sentenced to life term for murder and had been fined Tk5,000. He had already served 11 years of his sentence.
The order for the release from his remaining sentence arrived at the jail via email. Following a verification process, he was freed around 5:30pm on Sunday.
Jailor Monir said, “Under the general pardon declared by the President, four convicted prisoners across the country have had their sentences remitted and been released.”
Upon his release, Abdul paid the outstanding fine of Tk5,000 to the prison authorities.
The other prisoners who received sentence remissions for Eid are Naim Shikdar from Faridpur District Jail, Md Islam Sheikh from Khulna District Jail, and Palash Barua from Rangamati District Jail.
