President Mohammed Shahabuddin has casted his voting right through postal ballot for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections and referendum scheduled for 12 February.
His Assistant Private Secretary (APS) Mohammad Shagor Hossain confirmed to BSS this afternoon, stating, “Last night, His Excellency the President cast his vote through postal ballot from Bangabhaban for the Pabna-5 constituency.”
The APS added that a Postal Department official took the ballot to the relevant authorities this morning.
As per Article 27 of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), the Head of State is entitled to cast a postal ballot.
The Election Commission Secretariat also clarified that other eligible voters including those imprisoned or in legal custody, Bangladeshi expatriates, polling officers, and law enforcement members can exercise their voting rights through postal ballots in the upcoming elections.
Additionally, expatriates residing in 122 countries will also be able to vote via postal ballot this time.
Voting for the 13th general election and referendum will take place on February 12 from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
