Multiplex chain Star Cineplex is giving film enthusiasts a cinematic treat today, February 9, with three Hollywood films hitting the big screen simultaneously. Audiences can choose from the post-apocalyptic horror sequel ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’, the futuristic thriller ‘Mercy’ and the survival horror feature ‘Primate’.
According to Star Cineplex officials, all three films have already generated significant buzz among critics and viewers in the US and international markets. The multiplex hopes Bangladeshi audiences will respond just as enthusiastically to this diverse lineup, which spans genres from dystopian terror and sci-fi suspense to gripping survival horror.
Directed by Nia DaCosta, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is a much-anticipated sequel and the fourth instalment of the ‘28 Days Later’ franchise. Set 28 years after the Rage virus outbreak, the story depicts a fractured Britain ruled by paramilitary forces and cult-like factions. At the centre of the narrative is teenage Spike, who becomes embroiled with a mysterious faction led by the charismatic yet menacing Sir Jimmy Crystal.
Meanwhile, scientist Dr Ian Kelson works on a project that could redefine humanity’s future, raising questions about salvation and control. The cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman and Chi Lewis-Parry.
Directed by Timur Bekmambetov and produced by Charles Roven, Mercy follows detective Chris Raven, played by Chris Pratt, who is falsely accused of murdering his wife. With just 90 minutes to prove his innocence, his case is decided by an advanced AI judge. Rebecca Ferguson co-stars in this near-future thriller, which examines themes of technology, justice and morality, questioning whether artificial intelligence can truly grasp human ethics. Filmed almost entirely in real time, the movie keeps viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
Primate, directed by Johannes Roberts, focuses on a family living with their pet chimpanzee, Ben, on a remote Hawaiian island. When Ben is bitten by a rabid animal, his behaviour becomes dangerously aggressive, turning a peaceful holiday into a desperate fight for survival.
The cast features Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, Troy Kotsur, Victoria Wint, and Gia Hunter. The film explores the delicate balance between domestication and nature, showing humanity’s vulnerability in the face of uncontrollable forces.
