Highlighting independence as the nation’s “greatest achievement,” President Mohammed Shahabuddin has urged all citizens to work together across party lines to build a modern Bangladesh founded on equality, justice, and good governance.
In a message issued on 25 March marking Independence and National Day, the president extended his heartfelt greetings to Bangladeshis both at home and abroad.
Shahabuddin paid profound respect to the valiant martyrs of the War of Liberation and offered a humble tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam.
His tribute further included the national leaders, freedom fighters, and countless individuals from all walks of life who contributed to the historic struggle for freedom.
President Shahabuddin stated that the extraordinary sacrifices of the nation’s heroes serve as a continuous inspiration to move forward with confidence in building a state based on democracy and human dignity.
He emphasised that the core objectives of independence – including political and economic freedom and a society free from exploitation – must be realised by ensuring transparency and accountability across all spheres of the state and society.
It is a “sacred duty,” he noted, to build a secure and prosperous nation for future generations.
Addressing the current national landscape, the president acknowledged that the country continues to face the “adverse impacts” of prolonged misgovernance, alongside global economic challenges and unexpected energy crises.
However, he affirmed that the government remains committed to addressing these challenges with “utmost sincerity and competence” to ensure a self-reliant and just Bangladesh.
The president underscored that strong national unity, mutual empathy, and patriotism are now of “paramount importance.”
He called upon the people, regardless of party, opinion, or path, to collaborate in building a productive and secure nation. He concluded by wishing success to all programmes organised to commemorate the historic day.
