Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of Bangladesh, both at home and abroad, on the occasion of the Great Independence and National Day, set to be observed Thursday.
In a message issued on Wednesday, Tarique described 26 March as a “glorious and historic day” in the national life of Bangladesh. He paid profound respect to the “nation’s finest sons” whose sacrifices led to the achievement of an independent and sovereign country.
The prime minister expressed deep gratitude to the brave freedom fighters of the Liberation War, as well as the mothers and sisters who suffered oppression during the struggle. He also offered prayers for the eternal peace of the souls of all martyrs.
Highlighting the vision behind the nation’s independence, Tarique stated that the fundamental goal was to establish a Bangladesh free from discrimination, which is democratic, peaceful, and prosperous.
“Keeping that goal before us, we must work together and continue to move the country forward,” the Prime Minister said. He emphasised that to accelerate progress and development, the nation must uphold the spirit of national unity, mutual tolerance, and patriotism.
Tarique called upon citizens to draw inspiration from the significance of the day and dedicate themselves to the country’s welfare from their respective positions. He urged a collective effort to build a “developed, prosperous and dignified Bangladesh.”
The prime minister wished every success to all programmes organised to mark the Great Independence and National Day.
