The house of late Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, renowned for ‘Taste of Cherry’ and ‘Certified Copy’, has reportedly been damaged in missile strikes on Tehran.
Kiarostami’s son, Ahmad Kiarostami, shared on social media that the Chizar district, where his father’s residence is located, was hit during air raids. He said his mother confirmed her safety, but their family home sustained damage.
Abbas Kiarostami, who passed away in 2016, was one of Iran’s most celebrated directors and won the Palme d’Or at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival for Taste of Cherry. He gained international acclaim for films including the 2010 French drama Certified Copy starring Juliette Binoche.
The attack comes amid escalating military tensions in the region, with Israel and the US targeting Iranian infrastructure. Tehran has reported blackouts in multiple areas following the strikes, while the conflict continues across Iran, Iraq and Lebanon.
