Pori Moni has said she will not continue her long-running practice of organising Qurbani for financially struggling colleagues at the BFDC this Eid, marking a continuation of her absence from the initiative in recent years.
She noted that she had regularly taken part in arranging Qurbani at BFDC since 2016, often drawing praise for supporting underprivileged fellow artists. However, she confirmed that she has not been involved in the initiative there for around four years now.
Speaking about her expectations for this year’s Eid, she said she still hopes the tradition continues in some form for her colleagues at the film hub.
“I want the Qurbani to take place at FDC as well,” she said. “Since 2016, I have always carried out Qurbani with FDC. It has now been around four years that I have not been able to do it there. There are various reasons for this, which are now clear. But I want my fellow artists, many of whom are known to be financially struggling, to be able to celebrate Eid in a festive way. Whether I am there or not, I want their happiness to remain.”
The actress also said she will be spending Eid this year at her village home with family, after a long gap, in line with a wish expressed by her late grandfather.
“My grandfather always wanted me to go home and spend Eid with the family, and distribute Qurbani meat with my own hands,” she said. “For around eight to nine years, I did not go home for Eid because of FDC responsibilities.”
She added that she later stepped back from that responsibility, which allowed her to resume celebrating Eid with her family in her village.
Concluding her message, she expressed hope that Eid would bring joy to everyone.
“I do not know how much I am able to do, but I am trying to make Eid festive,” she said. “Eid brings messages of happiness and celebration. I want everyone to have smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts. Nothing more than that.”
