Dhallywood actress Sadika Parvin Popy has denied a viral claim that she described her work in films as sinful.
A statement circulating on social media claimed that Popy had said she wanted to “wash away all the sins” she had committed and die peacefully.
The National Film Award-winning actress said the claim was completely false.
Speaking to a media outlet after the statement went viral, Popy said she had never considered the film industry a place of sin.
Instead, she described film as one of the most honourable and sacred parts of her life.
“Film is my profession and my second family. I earned my livelihood from this industry and supported my family. Why would I call film a sin?” she said.
Popy said some remarks she had made in a personal context, out of frustration with her family, had been distorted.
“I said that I had nurtured some inhuman people in my life and had given everything of myself for my family without thinking about myself. I said it in that sense,” she said.
“But it was presented in a completely different way and spread to insult me.”
The actress said everyone had a responsibility to respect an artiste’s long career and sacrifices.
Popy said she had worked in the film industry for nearly three decades and that the contributions of people across the industry remained closely connected to her life.
“Will I lose my respect simply because I have stepped away from films?” she said. “As long as I live, my respect and love for cinema will remain unchanged.”
The actress, who has remained away from acting for a long time, said she is now living happily with her husband and only child.
She said she regularly performs prayers and observes fasting and spends her time focusing on a peaceful family life.
Although the possibility of her returning to acting appears limited, Popy said she remains interested in working as a producer in the future.
She also urged fans and colleagues not to believe or spread misleading statements without verification.
“Until my death, not a single bad word about the people of the film industry will come from my mouth,” Popy said.
