Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to maintain order and take strict action against lawbreakers during the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting a mock polling centre at Tetuljhora High School in Savar.
The adviser highlighted that technology would be utilised to its maximum potential in the upcoming polls. The rehearsal showcased the use of body-worn cameras, CCTV, drones, and the ‘Election Protection App 2026’.
Chowdhury expressed confidence that the honesty, efficiency, and sincerity of election officials and security forces, bolstered by information technology, would facilitate the most free, fair, neutral, and peaceful election in the nation’s history.
“The election will be held in a free, fair and neutral manner. There is not the slightest doubt about it,” said the home affairs adviser.
Addressing questions regarding Awami League social media campaigns urging citizens to boycott polling centres, the adviser remarked that the majority of the party’s leaders and activists have fled the country, leaving behind a very limited number of supporters.
He asserted that such campaigns conducted from abroad would fail to garner public support and challenged those involved to return to Bangladesh and face the law.
Chowdhury sought the cooperation of journalists to help foster a spontaneous and festive environment for the election, noting that the public had been deprived of their right to vote in the last three national elections. He expressed optimism that with everyone’s participation, the next election would be the most inclusive and celebratory one yet.
The event was attended by Home Ministry Senior Secretary Nasimul Gani, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam BPM, as well as heads of various law enforcement agencies and senior officials from divisional, district, and upazila administrations.
