President Mohammed Shahabuddin has conveyed his warmest greetings and heartiest congratulations to the people of Bangladesh and Bengali speakers across the globe on the auspicious occasion of Bengali New Year 1433.
In a message released on the eve of the festival, Shahabuddin described Pohela Baishakh as a universal festival of the soul and a bright example of unity, harmony, and non-communal spirit.
He noted that the day transcends differences of race, religion, and caste to become a day of joy and union for all, serving as the carrier of the nation’s glorious heritage and rich culture.
The president said the arrival of Baishakh awakens new expectations and dreams of infinite potential, allowing the nation to move forward with new energy by leaving behind the regrets and failures of the past.
Focus on agriculture and governance Highlighting the historical context of the Bengali calendar, President Shahabuddin noted that its journey began during the Mughal era as a “Fosli Son” (crop year) suited to the context of this agrarian country.
In line with this historical continuity, he hailed the launch of the ‘Krishak Card’ (Farmer Card) programme on Pohela Baishakh as a “milestone step.” He expressed his firm belief that this initiative will play a crucial role in the development of the agricultural sector and the improvement of farmers’ living standards.
Regarding the political landscape, Shahabuddin stated that a new democratic journey has commenced through a free, fair, and acceptable election. He added that the government has already launched several visionary and welfare-oriented programmes.
Call for unity amidst global challenges Acknowledging current global realities, the president urged the public to be more restrained, patient, and responsible in facing various challenges. He expressed confidence that through collective effort, honesty, and dedication, the nation would succeed in building a developed, prosperous, and humane state.
In his concluding remarks, Shahabuddin shared his sincere hope that all “evil and unpleasantness” would be removed, and that the glory of truth and beauty would echo everywhere.
