Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Cox’s Bazar on Saturday for a day-long, 12-hour programme, prompting extensive preparations across the district.
According to the official schedule, Tarique Rahman will arrive at 10am on Saturday and inaugurate a new upazila and municipality.
The prime minister is also expected to participate in political rallies, civic receptions, and development programmes, including the re-excavation of canals and tree plantation activities at Dulahazara Safari Park.
He will also visit the grave of Md Wasim Akram, the martyr of the July 2024 uprising, and meet with family members.
In the afternoon, he will inaugurate administrative operations in the newly formed Matamuhuri Upazila and Pekua Municipality, and at 4pm, he will address a political rally at the Chakaria bus terminal.
The visit will conclude with a civic reception at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar at 8pm, before he departs for Dhaka at 10pm. Authorities have put in place strict security measures for the visit.
At least six ministers and state ministers, along with numerous senior officials, arrived in the coastal city on Friday ahead of the visit.
The ministers include Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam, and State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam.
BNP leaders, allied organizations, district administration, and law enforcement have all actively coordinated to ensure smooth proceedings.
The district has been decorated, and local residents have expressed enthusiasm for the visit.
Tarique Rahman’s visit marks his first as Prime Minister to the tourism city, though he has previously visited Cox’s Bazar several times since 1985, attending both personal trips and party events.
District authorities have directed that no arches, posters, or banners be put up, in line with protocol guidelines.
