Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will officially launch the distribution of “Farmer Cards” in Tangail on Tuesday, as part of a pre-piloting programme aimed at providing direct subsidies and agricultural inputs to landless, marginal, and small farmers.
The prime minister will arrive at Shaheed Maruf Stadium at 10:30 am to inaugurate the distribution, according to official sources.
Before the main event, the prime minister will leave his official residence in Dhaka by road at 8am and reach Santosh at 10am to pay respects at the grave of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani. Later, at 12:15pm, he will inaugurate an agricultural fair at the Tangail Municipal Park.
Through the Farmer Card, landless, marginal, and small farmers will receive government subsidies, loans, and agricultural inputs. Each eligible farmer will receive financial assistance equivalent to an average of Tk2,500 in subsidies or agricultural inputs.
Widespread enthusiasm has been observed in Tangail district surrounding the prime minister’s visit. Preparations, including stage setup and beautification of Shaheed Maruf Stadium, have been underway for several days. Broken roads in the municipal area are also being repaired.
Agriculture Minister has already visited Tangail to review preparations for the programme.
Tangail Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Sanjay Kumar Mahanta said all types of preparations have been made for the prime minister’s arrival, adding that multiple layers of security will be in place.
