Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the authorities concerned to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity during Sehri, Iftar, and Taraweeh prayers throughout the upcoming month of Ramadan.
He issued these instructions on Wednesday during the first meeting of the new cabinet held at the Secretariat.
Following the meeting, Md Nurul Haque Nur, state minister for Labour and Employment and Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, briefed the media on the directives.
Governance, curbing corruption
During the session, Tarique reminded cabinet members of the significant public mandate the government enjoys. He emphasised that the public expects good governance and accountability.
In this regard, he instructed ministers to perform their duties above all forms of influence and nepotism, maintaining a steadfast stance against corruption.
He also ordered measures to keep the prices of essential commodities stable and to ensure that the law-and-order situation remains normal during Ramadan.
He also discussed the immediate implementation of key election commitments, specifically calling for visible progress on “Family Cards,” “Krishak (Farmer) Cards,” and “Health Cards.”
The meeting also touched upon government initiatives for Imams and Muazzins, with the Prime Minister seeking a swift determination on how to best support them.
Labour market and 180-day plan
State Minister Nur highlighted the importance of the Middle Eastern labour market, noting the foundational roles played by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in its development.
He suggested that a prime ministerial visit to the Middle East could help reopen closed markets and create new opportunities.
Additionally, the state minister announced that the Tarique Rahman-led government is set to adopt a comprehensive 180-day plan.
