Hollywood actor Shia LaBeouf has been arrested following an alleged altercation with two men during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans early on Tuesday morning, according to police.
New Orleans police confirmed that LaBeouf faces two counts of simple battery. Officers were called to a business near the French Quarter at approximately 12:45 am after reports that the actor was “causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive.” Authorities did not disclose the type of establishment involved.
Police said that when an employee attempted to remove LaBeouf, he allegedly struck one man multiple times with closed fists outside the building. Witnesses told officers that LaBeouf left the area but returned and continued to act aggressively. Multiple individuals reportedly tried to restrain him before police arrived. Another man told officers that LaBeouf punched him in the nose, and the first victim said he was hit again.
LaBeouf was taken to hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and was arrested upon his release. Court and jail records did not list an attorney to comment on his behalf, and attempts to reach his publicists were not immediately returned.
This is not LaBeouf’s first legal incident. He was arrested in New York in early 2017 for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct while a livestream captured the event. He was later sent to court-mandated rehabilitation. That summer, he was arrested in Georgia during filming of The Peanut Butter Falcon for similar charges and received probation. In 2020, he faced misdemeanor battery and petty theft charges in Los Angeles.
LaBeouf was also named in a lawsuit by the singer and actor FKA Twigs, alleging physical and emotional abuse during their relationship. The lawsuit, filed in 2020, was settled in July of the same year. LaBeouf issued an apology following the filing and later denied the claims in a 2021 court statement.
The 39-year-old actor first rose to prominence as a child on the Disney Channel series ‘Even Stevens’ and later starred in major films including ‘Transformers’ (2007) and ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ (2008). He has a daughter, born in 2022, with actor Mia Goth.
