Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to visit either China or India in June, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman said on Tuesday.
The foreign minister disclosed the information while speaking to reporters before departing Dhaka for Beijing.
He said the prime minister has commitments to friendly nations, including China and India, and that efforts are underway to finalise the schedule in coordination with the availability of the respective heads of government.
Referring to regional political developments, Khalilur Rahman said Bangladesh would respond appropriately if any “push-in” incidents arise in the wake of political changes in West Bengal.
During his visit to China, the foreign minister is expected to hold talks with his Chinese counterpart aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. Discussions will also include the proposed Teesta mega project, a priority initiative of the government.
On trade relations with the United States, the foreign minister described ongoing negotiations as positive.
He noted that while several countries are pursuing similar agreements, Bangladesh remains in a comparatively advanced position.
