Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inspected Bangladesh Army’s summer training exercise in Babuganj, Barishal.
He arrived at the site in Purba Rahmatpur area and then walked through the dense forest to observe different training activities and wartime preparations of army personnel.
During the exercise, the prime minister watched soldiers taking positions, moving through difficult terrain, and conducting activities designed to simulate real combat conditions. Army officers briefed him on different aspects of the exercise and the troops’ strategic readiness.
The premier also observed the operation of an anti‑drone multi‑barrel system used to detect and counter enemy drones. Officials explained its mechanism and battlefield application.
He mingled warmly with soldiers, checking on their well‑being and encouraging them to perform duties with dedication and professionalism. At one point, he sat on the ground with them, listening to their experiences of training, responsibilities, and fieldwork.
In a symbolic gesture, Tarique ate food prepared in battlefield conditions alongside the troops. He was served rice, lentils, mashed potatoes, shrimp curry, and egg curry cooked over a flame lit by candles inside a tin container.
Addressing the soldiers, Tarique said the Bangladesh Army is a symbol of the nation’s independence and sovereignty, enjoying deep public trust.
He also noted that the army has repeatedly set examples of professionalism, courage, and patriotism in tackling national crises, ensuring security, and maintaining law and order.
He emphasised that discipline, skill, sacrifice, and devotion to duty have earned the army special respect among the people. To sustain this trust and honor, he stressed the importance of professional training, use of modern technology, and maintaining maximum readiness.
The prime minister added that he grew up in a military family, so being among soldiers brings him joy and evokes childhood memories. Spending time with them felt like returning to his early years.
He expressed hope that the army will earn greater reputation, honor, and professional recognition worldwide in the future. He assured that the government will provide all necessary support for enhancing the army’s capacity, modernization, and prestige.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, Prime Minister’s Defense Adviser AKM Shamsul Islam, Chief of Army Staff General Waker‑Uz‑Zaman, Prime Minister’s Military Secretary Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq, and senior army officials were present at the event.
