The Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday cancelled the trade licence of Bangladesh Agrochemical Manufacturers Association (BAMA). The decision aims to merge BAMA with Bangladesh Crop Protection Association (BCPA), said a press release.
A notification in this regard was issued from the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka.
BAMA is engaged in importing raw materials and producing pesticides.
Most BAMA members were previously, or still are, members of BCPA. BCPA has 1,230 members, while BAMA has 20 business entities as members, the press release said.
The ministry said both organisations share the same purpose, nature and scope. It added that having two trade bodies in the same sector has created obstacles in import, production, distribution, and marketing of pesticides. It is logical to have only one trade organisation for the pesticide business, reads the ministry notification.
Citing Section 8 of the Trade Organisations Act, 2022, and Rule 10 of Trade Organisations Rules, 2025, the ministry cancelled BAMA’s licence. The stated purpose is to merge BAMA with BCPA.
