Traffic resumed in the Mohakhali Bus Terminal area of Dhaka on Thursday evening after bus owners and transport workers withdrew their blockade following talks with police.
The protesters cleared the road around 6pm, allowing vehicles to move again, said police.
Muntazul Islam, traffic inspector of the Mohakhali zone under DMP’s Traffic Gulshan Division, said police held discussions with the protesters and urged them to clear the road.
“Following discussions with police, they left the road around 6pm, and traffic movement resumed,” he said.
However, traffic remained heavy in the area as vehicles began moving after the road had remained blocked for several hours.
The bus owners and workers had taken to the streets earlier in the afternoon, alleging that long-distance buses were being subjected to cases unlawfully and dumped by authorities.
Earlier, the DMP Traffic Gulshan Division said the protesters had blocked the road to oppose the dumping of buses by police as part of efforts to ensure orderly and uninterrupted traffic movement around the Mohakhali terminal.
