Police have sought a fresh seven-day remand to interrogate Jerika Tasnim Disha, 19, who was arrested in connection with the murder of former Air Force officer KM Tahsif Sauri, 27.
The case investigating officer (IO) Firoz Uddin submitted the remand prayer on Wednesday following the completion of Disha’s initial four-day interrogation.
State Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman confirmed that the remand hearing will take place on Wednesday at the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Manjurul Islam.
Earlier, on Sunday, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ripon Hossain granted a four-day remand for Disha, a friend of the victim.
In the petition, police stated that during questioning, Disha disclosed details about travelling and spending time with Tahsif at various locations prior to the occurrence.
She revealed that on the day of the incident, they ate at CP Five Star Snacks in Sector 18, Uttara, and visited Nest Bar and Restaurant at night.
Police noted that further interrogation is necessary to ascertain whether any dispute or altercation took place between them at those places.
The application further detailed that on the night of 27 October, prior to the incident, Tahsif and Disha had visited Nest Bar and Restaurant together.
Disha also admitted to visiting a motorcycle garage with Tahsif and acknowledged riding around various places with him on a motorcycle.
The IO noted in the prayer that Disha provided several important pieces of information regarding the murder during questioning, which are currently being verified in the interest of the investigation.
However, police claimed that she directly evaded answers to certain questions during interrogation.
The petition also mentioned that co-accused Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, 23 is presently in custody on remand, making it necessary for police to cross-check and verify the statements of both Disha and Dwip to reconcile similarities and discrepancies.
Moreover, police stated that an analysis of Tahsif’s mobile phone call logs revealed multiple phone conversations with Disha.
According to police, primary investigations have yielded information indicating Disha’s involvement in the murder.
Police maintained that intensive interrogation is essential to unearth the primary mystery surrounding the murder, identify and arrest other unknown co-accused, and recover case evidence.
In the petition, the IO cited seven grounds for the remand, including investigating whether any altercation occurred between Tahsif and Disha on the day of the incident, whether there was any prior strain in their relationship, and whether any other individuals were involved in the crime.
The grounds also highlighted the verification of statements from Disha and Dwip, the recovery of case evidence, and the necessity to keep Disha detained in prison until the investigation is complete.
