Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday exchanged greetings with students from his alma mater, Dhaka Residential Model College, during their visit to the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Approximately 150 students, ranging from Class 6 to Class 11, visited Parliament to observe the session.
The students were seated in the Oath Room (Shapath Kaksha) of the parliament building, where they were given a brief presentation on the architectural significance of the Jatiya Sangsad and the complexities of the law-making process.
Addressing the gathering, the prime minister and leader of the house shared personal reflections, noting that both he and his brother, Arafat Rahman Koko, were former students at the college.
He expressed his hope for the students’ continued success in the future task of nation-building.
Following his remarks, Tarique interacted with the visiting students and teachers and participated in a photo session. He was accompanied by the Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.
The visit follows a formal request by Milon to Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad to allocate 150 seats – including 50 specifically designated for children – to encourage patriotism and provide the younger generation with an understanding of the legislative process.
As a result of this initiative, students have been making regular visits to the parliament.
On the occasion of prime minister’s scheduled speech in the House on Thursday, he extended a special invitation to the students of his former college through the education minister.
