Bangladesh has sought Singapore’s cooperation to modernise primary education, focusing on teacher training, curriculum reform and technology-based learning.
The discussion took place when State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj met Singapore Charge d’Affaires in Bangladesh Mitchel Lee at his Secretariat office, according to a press release.
The state minister said priority is being given to improving Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) at the primary level.
He said Bangladesh wants to strengthen reading comprehension, listening, speaking and writing skills to improve overall language proficiency.
Highlighting Singapore’s global reputation in education, he said the country’s primary curriculum is widely recognised as effective and structured, and Bangladesh can benefit from its experience.
Both sides discussed ways to deepen cooperation in the education sector.
The Singapore envoy said his country is ready to support Bangladesh through capacity-building programmes.
He said study tours could be arranged for government officials and education administrators to gain practical experience of Singapore’s system.
Both sides expressed hope that bilateral cooperation would expand further through joint initiatives.
Primary and Mass Education Secretary Md Shakhawat Hossain, Directorate of Primary Education Director General Shahina Ferdousi, and Bureau of Non-Formal Education Director General Debabrata Chakraborty were present.
