Mahdi Amin, advisor and spokesperson to the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, said the PM is committed to ensuring the good health and quality education of all students.
He made these remarks during a meeting with a World Food Programme (WFP) delegation led by its Bangladesh Representative Simone Parchment at the PM’s office in Tejgaon on Tuesday.
The visiting delegation included Deputy Head of Programme Marybeth Black, Head of Supply Chain Catherine Claire, Head of School Feeding Emma Clara Lefu and Senior Partnership Advisor Md Mohsin.
The discussions centred on the “Mid-Day Meal” initiative, focusing on strategies to provide nutrient-dense, high-quality food to students across the country.
Mahdi said the initiative was originally launched during the tenure of former prime minister Khaleda Zia. Tarique consistently highlighted the importance of the “Mid-Day Meal” programme for many years in his election manifestos and various speeches.
Emphasising the PM’s vision, Mahdi added, “Nutritious food is extremely important for the mental and physical development of children. The PM is committed to ensuring their good health and quality education.”
In response, the WFP representatives provided significant advice based on their global experience.
The meeting also addressed strategies to make the “Mid-Day Meal” programme more transparent, accountable, and effective. Emphasis was placed on strengthening monitoring and supervision, alongside making upazila-level committees more active and efficient.
