The Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram has recovered a foreign pistol looted from the Double Mooring Police Station. A young man has been arrested in connection with the incident, while an accomplice remains at large.
Minaz Uddin Rahim (21) was detained during an operation in the Motijhorna area of Khulshi Police Station around 2:30am on Tuesday. During interrogation, he confessed that on 5 August 2024, during the uprising, along with the absconding Amir Hossain, he entered the Double Mooring Police Station and looted a foreign pistol.
Police said the weapon was used in various crimes before Minaz sold it to Amir Hossain for Tk50,000. Later, based on his information, police conducted a raid at a house in the Lalkhan Bazar area, but Amir Hossain fled.
During a search of the premises, a 9mm caliber pistol was recovered from a shopping bag. The pistol is engraved with ‘TAURUS SA MADE IN BRAZIL’ along with various numbers. The arrested Minaz identified it as the weapon looted from Double Mooring Police Station.
Police said the absconding Amir Hossain has a murder case filed against him at Kotwali Police Station. A case is being prepared for filing at Khulshi Police Station over this incident.
Earlier on Monday night, DB (West) division arrested a person named Md Mainuddin (23) from the Maittyallapara area of Pahartali Police Station along with 320 Yaba tablets and Tk1,550. A case under the Narcotics Control Act has been filed at Pahartali Police Station in this connection.
In two separate operations by DB (Port) division, three more individuals were arrested. Two people named Mohsin (Murad) and Zahir were detained in the North Kattali area of Akbar Shah Police Station along with 300 Yaba tablets.
Meanwhile, a person named Imam Hossain (Fahim) was arrested in the Kaptai Road area of Chandgaon Police Station along with approximately 1.50kgs of cannabis and Tk1,070.
Police said separate cases have been filed at the respective police stations regarding these incidents.
