Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has laid the foundation stone for road development work in the Haque Residential Society area under Zone-2.
The development came at an event held on Saturday, where DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam attended as the chief guest, a press release said.
Railways Ministry and Road Transport and Highways Division State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib MP was present as the special guest.
The project, funded by DSCC, will develop around 1.1 kilometres of roads along with pipe drainage systems in lanes and by-lanes at an estimated cost of Tk 3.67 crore.
“The government believes in work, and the Prime Minister herself is closely monitoring the overall activities of city corporations,” said DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam.
Local civic problems and ongoing development projects will be implemented in coordination with the Members of Parliament, he added.
Referring to footpath management, he said unregulated occupation by hawkers in the past caused public suffering and disorder.
“From now on, a fixed number of hawkers will be allowed to sit at designated places on footpaths or roads for a specific time,” he said.
“We are ensuring smooth pedestrian and vehicular movement while carrying out organised rehabilitation of hawkers,” he added.
Expressing confidence in DSCC, Railways Ministry and Road Transport and Highways Division State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib MP said the city corporation would meet public expectations under the new government.
He also thanked the administrator for prioritising newly added areas in development initiatives.
Senior officials of Dhaka South City Corporation and local political leaders were present at the event.
