Actor Pavel Islam has written and directed the solo drama ‘Hariye Pawa’, which will be broadcast on NTV at 9:30 pm on Thursday, March 12. The cast includes Prantar Dastidar, Indrani Nishi, Sushma Sarkar, Pavel Islam, Fahmida Sharmin Fahmi and Monirul Islam.
This marks Pavel’s second production as a director. He previously made his directorial debut with ‘Fera’, which aired on the same channel on December 25 last year.
Speaking about his experience, Pavel said directing is challenging but deeply rewarding. He described the project as a “drama directed by a playwright” and noted that two of his upcoming works are awaiting broadcast on NTV, while another will air on ATN Bangla.
The story of Hariye Pawa follows Nupur and Ishtiaq, who travel to Srimangal after Ishtiaq loses much of his memory in an accident. Acting on medical advice, they hope the trip will help his recovery. At the resort they meet Rubaiyat and Sheela. During one evening gathering, Rubaiyat sings while Sheela listens beside him. Nupur joins them and shares parts of her life story with Sheela. Later, a song sung by Rubaiyat unsettles Ishtiaq and stirs forgotten memories, eventually leading to a deeply emotional revelation.
When asked whether he plans to direct regularly, Pavel said that production depends largely on factors such as budget, time and availability of artists. However, he emphasised that storytelling and production remain his creative responsibility. He added that he has never pursued cheap popularity and intends to maintain that approach in his work.
Pavel Islam has been active in theatre, television, commercials and films for more than three decades. Alongside acting, he writes regularly. His previous works include ‘Jhora Patay Drostobbo’, ‘Kew To Jane’, ‘Prem Bole Kichu Nei’ and ‘Fera’.
He began his career as a journalist with the biweekly newspaper Ananda Bhuban. Later, he worked with Prothom Alo and NTV, where he currently serves as manager of the programme department.
Under his planning, writing and presentation, the weekly Friday cultural talk show ‘Songlap Protidin’ has also gained popularity among viewers.
