The Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has initiated legal action against a number of traffic rule offenders in a 24-hour drive to restore order on the city’s roads.
A total of 1,597 cases were lodged against motor vehicles and their drivers for violating traffic regulations across the capital.
The statement was issued on Thursday under the authority of DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman.
On 18 November, enforcement actions resulted in the seizure of 267 motor vehicles, while another 139 were immobilised on the spot as part of the clampdown.
A division-wise breakdown of the cases was provided in the official release. The Motijheel Traffic Division led the efforts with 336 cases, followed by Uttara Division with 277 cases, and Gulshan Division with 260 cases.
Besides, Lalbagh Division filed 177 cases, Tejgaon Division filed 168 cases, Wari Division registered 155 cases, Ramna Division filed 119 cases, and Mirpur Division filed 105 cases.
These legal actions were taken against a range of vehicles, including private cars, three-wheelers, and motorcycles.
DMP further stated that the drive will continue to ensure discipline on Dhaka’s streets.
