Police seized 350 litres of illegally stockpiled diesel and arrested a businessman in Matlab Dakshin upazila of Chandpur on Friday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid at Dhali Market area, where they discovered the stockpiled fuel in a shop and detained the owner. The arrestee was identified as Md Hasan, 30.
According to police, nationwide surveillance and operations have been intensified to prevent illegal stockpiling amidst the ongoing global fuel crisis.
The operation was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (Matlab Circle) Jabir Husnain Sanib and Matlab Dakshin Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Hafizur Rahman Manik.
ASP Sanib said those who attempt to cause public suffering by creating artificial crises are not genuine businessmen.
He further asserted that drives against dishonest traders will continue and that legal action is being taken against the detained individual.
