Authorities seized 750 litres of illegally stored diesel from a water tank on the roof of a residence in Subarnachar, Noakhali.
Subarnachar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Aqib Osman confirmed the matter. Acting on a tip-off, he conducted a special operation on Friday and then sold the seized fuel.
According to local, the fuel had been stored for a long time in the rooftop water tank at the house of a man named Bosu Serang in Charjabbar Union. The sight of oil instead of water in a standard water tank caused a stir in the locality.
UNO Aqib said, “The stored 750 litres of oil were seized, confiscated, and sold at depot rates through a spot auction to a licensed oil trader at Char Hasan Bhuiyan Hat Bazar. Bosu was fined Tk10,000 under the Petroleum Act, 2016.”
Authorities stated that storing such a large quantity of flammable substances in a densely populated area, in violation of safe fuel storage and sales policies, is extremely hazardous.
