Religion Adviser A F M Khalid Hossain has said that no individual or group will be allowed to create chaos in the country by misinterpreting religion, insisting that only the explanations of genuine Islamic scholars are acceptable in religious matters.
He made the remarks on Thursday afternoon while addressing the annual waz mahfil in Charmonai, Barishal.
The Adviser said no one is permitted to take the law into their own hands over allegations of religious insult, warning that such actions lead to violence and disorder. He said anyone who commits wrongdoing or hurts religious sentiments will face action from the administration.
He noted that law enforcement agencies have, on various occasions, brought individuals who made offensive remarks about religion, Allah or the Prophet under legal action as quickly as possible. He added that anyone who makes derogatory remarks about Allah, the Prophet or the Qur’an in the future will also be brought under the law.
Dr Khalid said Islamic scholars, pirs and mashayekhs have worked tirelessly for centuries to spread Islamic thought and establish Islamic values, and their efforts will continue to succeed.
The event was presided over by Charmonai Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim. Also present were Syed Mosaddeq Billah Al Madani, member of the Islamic Foundation Board of Governors, Mufti Rezaul Karim Abrar, general secretary of Ulama Mashayekh Aimmah Parishad, and leaders of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
Earlier, the Religion Adviser held a views-exchange meeting with officials from different districts of the Barishal division at the Charmonai Madrasa conference room.
