Bangladesh did not just bowl; they suffocated. Taskin and Shoriful opened with tight lines and zero freebies, forcing the batters to play and miss rather than score. The scoreboard crawled to just three runs after four overs, and the pressure built with every passing delivery.
That early squeeze set the tone. Even when Nick Kelly found a couple of boundaries, Bangladesh refused to panic or change their plan. They kept hitting the same channels, dragging New Zealand into a scrap rather than a scoring contest.
Then Nahid Rana stepped in and broke the resistance. He trapped Henry Nicholls lbw and followed it up by removing Will Young, who spooned a catch to Soumya Sarkar. Two wickets fell quickly, and New Zealand suddenly looked short of answers.
Bangladesh packed the line just outside off, forced defensive strokes, and cut off easy singles. That approach works like a slow squeeze, where frustration replaces fluency and mistakes follow.
After 20 overs, New Zealand limped to 66 for three. Bangladesh’s bowlers had already delivered 86 dot balls, with Shoriful alone accounting for 29 of them.
