NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain has urged the government and the Election Commission to ensure a secure environment during the election campaign, warning that no candidate, worker, or voter should face a fate similar to that of Hadi.
Speaking to reporters after receiving the Shapla Koli (Water Lily bud) symbol as the 10-party alliance led-by Jamaat candidate at the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner’s conference room, Akhtar expressed concern over recent violent incidents in the country.
Akhtar said it was deeply regrettable that a RAB officer was killed by gunfire from criminals during an arms recovery operation, while casualties were also reported in separate incidents in Mirpur.
Such incidents point to a deterioration in law and order. “We appeal to the authorities to ensure that during the election campaign, no one suffers as Osman Hadi did.”
He also criticised the misuse of legal cases for political gain.
“Many ordinary citizens have been harassed, and cases are increasingly being treated as political tools. We expect the government to take strict measures to prevent illegal arms, clashes, and harm to voters, candidates, and party workers,” he said.
Akhtar emphasised the importance of a transparent and secure voting process. “We want to protect every aspect of the election. Those who do not actively campaign will be rejected by the people. Our goal is to realise a new Bangladesh through participatory democracy, where voters can make safe and informed choices,” he added.
Rangpur district Ameer ATM Azharul Islam and city assistant secretary and Rangpur-4 constituency director Mostak Ahmed were also present at the event.
