National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Nasiruddin Patwary alleged that leaders and activists of Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal attacked him and party supporters in Jhenaidah on Friday.
The alleged attack took place in front of Jhenaidah Poura Collectorate Jame Mosque after Jumma prayers, according to statements made by Nasiruddin Patwari and the NCP.
In a Facebook status, Nasiruddin Patwari alleged that activists of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal attacked him and members of the public in the presence of police. He also claimed that he was punched and assaulted during the incident.

Nasiruddin Patwary said, “Today, Friday, 22 May, immediately after Jumma prayers at Jhenaidah Poura Collectorate Jame Mosque, activists of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal attacked Nasiruddin Patwari and members of the public in the presence of police. Three people suffered head injuries and several others were seriously injured in the joint attack by Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal. In a terrorist-style assault, the attackers also snatched mobile phones, cameras and wallets.”
NCP condemns attack
In a separate statement, the NCP strongly condemned the incident and described it as a “disgraceful attack” on its leaders and activists.
The party claimed the attack targeted Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the NCP, while he was leaving the mosque after prayers. According to the statement, around 17 party activists, including joint member secretary Tariq Reza, were injured in the incident. Among them, three reportedly sustained serious injuries.
The NCP also alleged that attackers snatched mobile phones, wallets and cameras from party activists during the violence.
The statement claimed that the convenor of Islamic University Chhatra Dal, the current president of Jhenaidah district Chhatra Dal and its recently former president were present at the scene during the attack.
Seven accused named
The NCP named seven people in connection with the alleged attack.
According to the party, Sahed Ahammed, convenor of the Islamic University (IU) unit of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, first threatened Nasiruddin Patwary and later led the attack.
The party alleged that Imran, current president of Chhatra Dal, directly led the assault and punched an NCP activist named Tanaim.
Former Chhatra Dal president Soumenuzzaman Somen allegedly directed the attack and instructed others to assault NCP activists.
The NCP also accused Mobarak Hossain Imon, president of Ward No. 3 Poura Chhatra Dal, of throwing bricks that injured activist Rafin on his right shoulder.
Nayan Hawlader allegedly used a white GI pipe during the attack and attempted to hit Nasiruddin Patwary. The blow reportedly struck another activist named Hridoy instead.
The statement further alleged that a person identified as Hadu assaulted several people indiscriminately.
Shahriar Russell, current general secretary of Chhatra Dal, and Arafat of KC College Chhatra Dal were also accused of being directly present during the incident.
