Bangladesh spinner Nayeem Hasan has returned to Dhaka after an alleged incident of police harassment and assault in Chattogram, with his family and the Bangladesh Cricket Board Bangladesh Cricket Board taking steps to support his recovery.
Family members said they moved him to Dhaka to reduce pressure and allow him to settle in a team environment. They said repeated questioning in Chattogram affected his mental state and created concern over his preparation for upcoming matches.
His brother, Abesh Khan, said Nayeem “is now doing better” and added that the decision focused on keeping him with teammates for stability. He also confirmed that a doctor from the Bangladesh Cricket Board assessed him before the move.
The incident reportedly took place after Nayeem returned to Chattogram and travelled from the airport by CNG autorickshaw. Family members alleged that police stopped him on suspicion and later assaulted him during a search operation.
The allegations have triggered an internal response from the Chattogram Metropolitan Police Chattogram Metropolitan Police. Officers face scrutiny over procedure, including claims that approval channels and verification steps did not follow standard protocol.
Authorities have formed a three-member investigation committee to examine the incident. Reports also indicate that a station officer has been withdrawn and others face temporary suspension while the inquiry continues.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board continues to monitor the situation. Officials have maintained contact with the player and his family as they assess his availability for upcoming domestic and international commitments.
