Hasan Mahmud marked his Kent debut with nine wickets as the Bangladesh fast bowler set up a 140-run County Championship win over Lancashire at Stanley Park in Blackpool. He took 3 wickets in the first innings before returning figures of 6 for 69 in the second as Lancashire fell short at 283 all out.
Kent used Mahmud as a key attacking option through both innings. He struck early in the second innings, removing Harry Singh in his first over after entering the attack in the ninth over. He came back into the attack and removed Josh Bohannon with his first over of the second spell, tightening control on the Lancashire middle order.
Mahmud then broke through the top order with the wicket of Keaton Jennings, who top-scored for Lancashire with 61. He kept hitting a consistent line at the stumps and forced the batters into low-risk survival mode rather than building partnerships.
The decisive phase arrived in the 63rd over. Mahmud bowled Liam Livingstone with a straight delivery that crashed into the stumps, before Joseph Moores edged behind in the same over. He added a final wicket later, removing George Balderson to complete a six-wicket haul in the innings.
Lancashire never recovered from those strikes and lost momentum through the middle and lower order. Kent controlled the final stages as Mahmud’s sustained pressure shaped the contest.
His combined figures of 9 wickets across both innings underline a dominant debut that gave Kent full control of the match from the second innings onward.
