A man, who was among five people burned in a gas explosion caused by a line leak in Narayanganj’s Fatullah on Sunday, has died while undergoing treatment.
Residential surgeon Shawon Bin Rahman confirmed Kalam’s death around 11am Monday at Dhaka’s National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. He had suffered burns on 95 percent of his body.
The accident occurred around 7am Sunday at a house in front of Gram Bangla Tower in Fatullah’s Giridara area.
Neighbour Md Hasan, who brought the victims to hospital, said the explosion happened suddenly in the morning. Locals rushed in after hearing the blast and found the house on fire. The family was rescued and taken immediately to the burn institute.
Kalam’s wife Saima, their son Munna, and daughters Munni and Kotha were also injured.
Doctors said Saima suffered 60 percent burns, Munna 30 percent, Kotha 52 percent, and Munni 35 percent. All remain in critical condition.
