Runa Laila has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle, calling it an irreplaceable loss for the music world.

Bhosle passed away at the age of 92 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Mumbai. Her death has triggered widespread mourning across the cultural communities of both Bangladesh and India.

Reacting to the news, Runa Laila described the loss of both Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar within a short span of time as deeply painful, saying it feels as though an entire era of music has come to an end. She added that such iconic voices are unlikely to be seen again and spoke of a sense of personal emptiness following the news.

Recalling her last interaction with Asha Bhosle, Runa Laila said they had met during a recording session for a song she had composed, titled ‘Chole Jawa Dheu’. After that, they remained in occasional phone contact, though she regretted not having spoken to her recently despite intending to do so.

She added that she now feels a lingering regret over not making that final call, describing the loss as emotionally overwhelming.

Asha Bhosle’s career spanned more than seven decades, beginning in the early 1940s. Over her lifetime, she became one of the most prolific voices in South Asian music, recording thousands of songs across multiple languages and earning some of India’s highest civilian honours, including the Padma Bhushan.
