Members of a businessman’s family were allegedly attacked by the “Munna Bahini” gang in the Lalmatia area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, reportedly stemming from a previous enmity.
Seven family members sustained injuries, with two reported to be in critical condition, according to the victims’ family.
A written complaint regarding the incident was filed at Mohammadpur Police Station on Friday.
According to the complaint, the attack occurred at approximately 2:30 am on Thursday as the family was returning to their former residence. Assailants intercepted the vehicle carrying the family members.
When one individual, identified as Abu Naim, questioned the reason for the obstruction, members of the Munna Bahini began beating him indiscriminately.
Upon hearing of the confrontation, the victim’s two brothers, Abdullah Al Nahid and Nazmul Hasan, rushed to the scene. They were also subjected to physical assault and were reportedly struck with sharp weapons.
In addition to the physical assault, the attackers snatched gold jewellery and an expensive wristwatch from the victims and vandalised their vehicle.
The assailants fled the scene when local residents arrived, alerted by the victims’ cries. The injured were subsequently rescued and admitted to a hospital. Abdullah Al Nahid and Nazmul Hasan, who sustained serious injuries, remain under medical treatment.
Mohammadpur Police Station stated that an investigation into the attack is currently underway and efforts to arrest those accused are ongoing.
