The 39th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship is set for a tense finish on Thursday at the Kurmitola Golf Course in Dhaka. After three days of play, Bangladesh’s Munna Mia and Sonia Akter lead the men’s and women’s events.
Munna sits on top of the men’s leaderboard after three rounds. The Kurmitola Golf Club golfer has a total of 225 shots. He stayed calm through the third day and built a narrow edge over the field.
Sharif Hossain of Bangladesh ‘C’ team is close behind in third place with 227 shots. Sohel Rana from Bangladesh ‘B’ team stands fourth on 228. Abdul Kader of Bhatiary Golf and Country Club is fifth with 230.
Foreign golfers also remain in the mix. Sri Lanka’s Danushan Kanas Kumar is eighth. Bhutan’s Lendup Dessen is 11th. Nepal’s Rahul Bishwakarma and Tenzing Shering are 16th and 20th. Pakistan’s Mohammad Abdullah Khan is 26th.
In women’s golf, Sonia Akter leads after a solid third round. She returned a score of 82 and stayed ahead of the pack. Nepal’s Tara Karki is second with 84 shots. Bangladesh’s Nasima Akter is third with 87.
The tournament features 90 golfers from eight countries. Along with Bangladesh, players from Australia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal and Bhutan are competing. The Bangladesh Golf Federation is organising the event, powered by vivo Bangladesh.
Munna said he feels confident but cautious going into the final day. He wants to keep his focus and cut out the small mistakes. Sonia said her aim is clear. She wants the title and plans to give her best in the final round.
The 39th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship will conclude on Thursday at the Home of Golf, Kurmitola.
