Three women were allegedly forced to wear garlands of shoes and paraded in public in Natore’s Gurudaspur on Monday afternoon.
The victims alleged that local Jubo Dal member Ziaur Rahman Zia and his brother Yarul Islam confined them in a room and forced them to sign blank stamp papers.
The incident took place in Garishapara village under Gurudaspur municipality on Monday afternoon. Later that night, two video clips of the incident went viral on Facebook.
In one video, lasting nearly one and a half minutes, the three women are seen being paraded along a road with garlands of shoes around their necks. A crowd is seen following them in the video.
The other video shows the three women confined in a room at Zia’s residence. A man is seen taking their signatures on blank stamp papers in front of news reporters’ cameras, while Zia records the incident on his mobile phone.
The victims alleged that Yarul forcibly took them from their home and assaulted them. They demanded strict legal action against everyone involved in the incident.
Zia, a member of Gurudaspur upazila unit of Jubo Dal, claimed that locals carried out the incident in protest against the alleged practice of “black magic” by the three women.
When contacted, Gurudaspur upazila Jubo Dal President Abdul Hai Talukder said he was unaware of the incident and said that Jubo Dal had no involvement in it.
He added the party would look into the matter.
Md Abdul Hannan, officer-in-charge of Gurudaspur Police Station, said he had not received any formal complaint regarding the incident.
Legal action will be taken against those involved if a complaint is filed, he added.
