Musawath Shams Zahedee produced the standout performance of the opening day at the 39th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship 2025, delivering a rare hole-in-one on the eighth hole at Kurmitola Golf Course and finishing one under par to lead the individual standings.
Zahedee, an amateur golfer from Kurmitola Golf Club, was the only player to shoot below par on day one. On a course that challenges even seasoned professionals, he completed his round with 71 shots, one fewer than the standard 72. His remarkable ace at the par-three eighth hole provided the defining moment of the day and underscored his command of the conditions.
Bangladesh golfer, Abu Bakar Siddique, finished two shots behind Zahedee with 74. That leaves Zahedee three strokes clear of the second-placed golfer. Although he is not part of the team event, Zahedee has set his sights firmly on delivering the individual title for Bangladesh.
“It feels wonderful to be at the top of the leaderboard among golfers from eight countries,” Zahedee said. “I want to maintain this performance. I hope to play even better in the next round and I believe I can become champion in this international tournament.”
The championship, which began yesterday at Kurmitola, is being contested by amateur golfers from Bangladesh, Australia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal and Bhutan. It is organised by the Bangladesh Golf Federation and powered by Vivo Bangladesh.
Bangladesh dominated across the board on the first day, finishing top in both the individual and team events. In the individual category, home golfers occupy all ten leading positions. Behind Zahedee and Siddique, third place is shared by Bangladesh C’s Abdul Kader and Hossain Joy, both scoring 75. Fifth place is held jointly by Bangladesh A’s Shafiqul Islam and Kurmitola’s Munna Mia with 76.
Rounding off the top ten are Sohel Rana, Sharif Hossain, Rizvi Khan and Ashiqur Rahman, each carding 77.
The four-day tournament will conclude on 19 December with a formal prize-giving ceremony.
