A woman and her daughter were killed after a bus hit the motorcycle they were riding in Panchagarh on Monday night.
The incident occurred around 8pm in New Bandar Abdulpur area of Sadar union under Debiganj upazila.
The deceased were identified as Momota Begum, 37, of Patwari Para in Debiganj municipality, and her seven-year-old daughter Muntaha. Momota’s other daughter, Mubashira, was injured in the crash.
According to police and local sources, a bus of Nader Paribahan, carrying passengers from Debiganj to Dhaka, struck the motorcycle in the area.
Momota was returning home from her father’s house with her twin daughters. Her nephew Monirul Islam was riding the bike, while all the victims were pillion riders.
Locals rushed the victims to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Momota and Muntaha dead. Mubashira and Monirul received primary treatment for their injuries.
Debiganj Police Station’s Officer-in-charge (OC) KM Moniruzzaman said the bus and its driver have been taken into custody. He added, “Preparations are under way to file a case in connection with the incident.”
