Police recovered the body of a businessman from a pond in Noakhali Sadar upazila on Saturday, two days after he was reported missing.
The deceased was identified as Ranjit Kuri, 53, a resident of Ward No 6 of Noakhali municipality.
According to local sources, he had been missing since Thursday afternoon after leaving home.
Family members searched for him at relatives’ houses and other possible locations but were unable to trace his whereabouts. Local residents spotted the body floating in a pond in the Gonai Ramshankar area at around 10:45am on Saturday and informed police.
Police later went to the scene and recovered the body from the water.
An inquest report was prepared at the spot and the body was sent to the morgue of the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy.
Sudharam Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhidul Islam said no visible injury marks were found on the body.
He said the victim’s family informed police that Ranjit Kuri had been suffering from mental health problems.
Police registered an unnatural death case and said the exact cause of death will be known after receiving the autopsy report.
